Overview ✨

BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) is India’s official UPI-based mobile payment application, enabling instant & secure bank-to-bank transfers. Introduced to promote financial inclusion & accelerate the country’s move toward cashless payments, BHIM is a product built for every Indian – from daily wage earners in Tier 3 towns to professionals in metro cities. However, despite being a government-backed platform, BHIM struggled to compete with private players like Google Pay, PhonePe & Paytm in terms of adoption, engagement & user experience.

We partnered with BHIM to reimagine the product experiencetransforming it from a purely functional government app into a seamless, engaging & inclusive digital payment companion for the next billion users.

How might we empower every Indian to seamlessly adopt BHIM for all daily financial needs?

How might we make digital payments accessible to minors while also teaching them good financial habits?

Pain Points:

1. No formal bank account - Limited access to standard financial tools or debit card

2. Inconsistent Allowances: Hard to plan or save when money comes irregularly or in small amounts.

3. Impulsive Spending: Struggle to control desire for instant gratification.

4. Lack of Tailored Guidance: Existing finance apps are too adult-focused, boring, or complicated.
